About the band

New approaches to Argentine folk music from accomplished classical urban tango formation.

Quinteto Bataraz composes, arranges and performs Argentine folk music. The quintet is composed of bandoneón, violin, double bass, guitar and piano, a typical tango formation, and brings to us an urban sound with original hues through which to experience this music of rural origins. A balanced mix between tango and folklore.

In 2016 they are chosen from more than 850 artists to participate in the WOMEX 16th edition representing Argentina. This event takes place in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain.

The first album Quintet Bataraz is winner of two Gardel Awards 2015 in the categories: Best Album and Best folklore group new artist album folklore, and it won the first prize in the National Arts Fund Programme for the Promotion of Argentine Folk Music Albums 2013, The piece “De Madera” composed by Lisandro Baum, released on this album won the third place in the National Awards to production from 2011 to 2014 (Premios Nacionales a la producción 2011 – 2014)

The young group is composed of Sebastian Henriquez on guitar, Carolina Cajal on bass, Matias Gobbo on bandoneón, Pablo Farhat on violin and led by Lisandro Baum in piano, arrangements and direction.
